Parent/Tot - Independance

This class is designed for children who can walk and who are not yet ready to be in a class by him/herself. Through integration with both the instructor and other classmates, your child will be ready to join level 1 independently.

Skills being taught:

  • Enter and exit water safely
  • Submerge mouth, nose & eyes
  • Exhale under water through mouth & nose (bubble blowing)
  • Pick up submerged toys with head above & below water
  • Put head on instructor or parent's shoulder to perform back floats & kicks
  • Explore arm & hand movements with and without a noodle
  • Jump into water at different depths with assistance
  • Ability to sit & listen
  • Ability to be independent in the water without parent

Level 1 - Basic water skills

This class is for children who can be away from their parents and are in the beginning stages of learning to swim

Skills being taught:

  • Exit water safely using ladder and side of pool
  • Independently jumping into the water with supervision of instructor
  • Bob with head fully submerged & exhale underwater
  • Perform a sitting dive (with little to no help)
  • Successfully retrieve toy/ring from the bottom of pool (fully submerged)
  • Perform front & back floats (with little to no assistance)
  • Use a kickboard on front & back with little to no help from instructor
  • Ability to swim with a float belt without assistance

Level 2 - Stroke introduction

This class is designed for children to learn the basics of swimming

Skills being taught:

  • Jump into water from side of pool chest deep
  • Perform 10 bobs in a row(fully submerged)
  • Submerge self & retrieve several objects (holding breath for 10+ seconds)
  • Perform front & back floats independently (ability to go from one to the other)
  • Change from horizontal to vertical positioning on front & back
  • Perform shallow water sitting dive independently
  • Using/Maneuvering a kickboard on front & back without the help of an instructor
  • Performing front & back (streamlines) below the surface of the water
  • Perform freestyles and backstrokes independently
  • Ability to breath to side during freestyle
  • Ability to tread water for 15-30 seconds

Level 3 - Stroke Technique

This class is designed for perfecting the techniques of freestyle and backstroke. We also introduce the breaststroke

Skills being taught:

  • Perform shallow water kneeling dive
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Hold breath underwater for 15-20 seconds
  • Streamline off the wall, both front and back
  • Perform freestyle a full length while breathing to the side
  • Perform backstroke a full length
  • Perform backstroke kick with kickboard above head (gradually turning kickboard into a streamline)
  • Perform open turns on front & back
  • Perform breaststroke with proper arms, kick, and breathing

Level 4 - Endurance

This class is designed for children to put everything they have learned to use while adding adding endurance. This class will be held in the lap pool. We also introduce the final strokes, the hardest stroke to learn, the butterfly.

Skills being taught:

  • Tread water for 1-2 minutes (hands above water for 30 seconds)
  • Perform standing dive
  • Streamline off each wall
  • Perform all flip turns
  • Swim underwater (10-15 yards) while holding breath
  • Refine all strokes: freestyle, backstroke, & breaststroke
  • Introduce butterfly
  • Increase yardage & incorporate drills with each stroke
