Parent/Tot - Independance

This class is designed for children who can walk and who are not yet ready to be in a class by him/herself. Through integration with both the instructor and other classmates, your child will be ready to join level 1 independently.

Skills being taught:

  • Enter and exit water safely
  • Submerge mouth, nose & eyes
  • Exhale under water through mouth & nose (bubble blowing)
  • Pick up submerged toys with head above & below water
  • Put head on instructor or parent's shoulder to perform back floats & kicks
  • Explore arm & hand movements with and without a noodle
  • Jump into water at different depths with assistance
  • Introduction to a kick board
  • Learn Green, Yellow & Red light game (kicks)

Level 1 - Basic water skills

This class is for children who can be away from their parents and are in the beginning stages of learning to swim

Skills being taught:

  • Exit water safely using ladder and side of pool
  • Enter water by jumping from the side of the pool to an instructor
  • Bob with head fully submerged
  • Exhale underwater through mouth and/or nose
  • Introduction to a sit-dive
  • Front floats, back floats
  • Submerge entire head & pick up a submerged toy
  • Use a noodle on the front & back with/without assistance from an instructor
  • Use a kick board on the front & back with/without assistance from an instructor
  • Swim on front by paddling and kicking with a float belt

Level 2 - Stroke introduction

This class is designed for children to learn the basics of swimming

Skills being taught:

  • Jump into water from side of pool chest deep
  • Perform 10 bobs in a row
  • Change from horizontal to vertical position on front & back
  • Floats on front & back with little to no assistance
  • Roll over from back to front & front to back
  • Perform shallow water dive from seated position
  • Submerge self & retrieve several objects
  • Hold breath for 10 seconds underwater
  • Hold, manage & maneuver a kick board independently on front & back
  • Perform beginning freestyle with & without a float belt/noodle
  • Perform beginning backstroke with & without a float belt/noodle
  • Perform front & back glides on the side of the wall
  • Perform beginning breaststroke (arms) with float belt/noodle

Level 3 - Stroke Technique

This class is designed for perfecting the techniques of freestyle and backstroke. We also introduce the breaststroke

Skills being taught:

  • Perform shallow water dive from kneeling position
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Hold breath underwater for 15-20 seconds
  • Streamline off the wall, both front and back
  • Work on swimming freestyle with rotary breathing 1 pool length
  • Work on swimming backstroke 1 pool length
  • Perform backstroke kicks with kick board above the head 1 pool length, gradually move from the kick board into streamline
  • Perform open turns on front & back
  • Introduce and perform breaststroke with proper arms, kicks & breathing

Level 4 - Endurance

This class is designed for children to put everything they have learned to use while adding adding endurance. This class will be held in the lap pool. We also introduce the final strokes, the hardest stroke to learn, the butterfly.

Skills being taught:

  • Tread water 3 different styles (scissor, whip & eggbeater) for 1-2 minutes
  • Perform standing dive
  • Streamline off each wall
  • Perform all flip turns
  • Swim underwater for 10-15 yards while holding breath
  • Refine all strokes: students will swim them with ease, efficiency, power & smoothness over greater distance (swim freestyle, swim backstroke, swim breaststroke
  • Introduce butterfly
  • Increase yardage & incorporate drills with each stroke
